Pleasant tingling during meditation?
A couple of months ago a friend of mine showed me meditation. I do not know if it Zen, transcendental, etc. I just focus on my breathing and try to reach a point where I think no thoughts. I notice when I not in a state of mind, good warm feeling out of my temples and around my head in a sort of crown thing. Then, these feelings destroy my spine. It's a very euphoric feeling. During this time my body started contractions but it feels quite good, so I do not worry about it. Someone else this experience or know if this is common? Thank you.
There can be different things that lead to these kinds of experiences. Sometimes, this is what Buddhists call "Kriya" – which can include physical tics. And those who tend to be similar to the contraction literal you can get when a tight muscle begins to relax, only in this case its more "aggressive" part of you is relaxing. Sometimes it can actually come from pushing too hard. There is no real need to make your mind blank, for example. Allowing only thoughts that arise go and come, like boats on a river or cloud in the air, is the idea. There are different procedures in meditation, but by and large you simply be honest and present (and not "identified" with the thought). And it's one way to address both pleasant and not so pleasant tingling during meditation – watching them come and go, without trying to cling to them and trying not to push off. Sometimes things like that need your attention and acceptance – are they "tell you something." But mostly, they do not need much, they can then be regarded as just more changes over time.
