If I just sit in a chair everyday from 9-10 & meditate what will happen?
I know I need to b/c aware of things right now but just have not started a meditation practice. I thought I would just sit down for an hour today & do that. In the past I have fallen to sleep, got up & walked away forgetting I was supposed to stay still. I think if I set a timer than I will know that I am not suppossed to leave to it dings. I am running from my own mind. This time of year brings back something very traumatic for me yet I have wonderful friends who just want me to take care of myself. So how to I meditate. the strange thing is that I have a large group of friends & 35 of us are having dinner at one persons house Saturday. Everyone of them meditates. I just want to cancel out Sat. but I know they will be concerned so Help!
ha, ha, I think some people thought I met for 11 hours. That is so funny. No this is a serious question about meditation.
Just relax and don’t expect anything to happen because nothing will, that’s the point. Just sit and be quiet, release your desire to invest time and thought into anything..let everything go except this moment and focus on your in and out breaths. Whenever you discover that you have drifter off with a thought just say to yourself “thinking” and just drop the thought and go back to the breath. As soon as you have realized that you went off with a thought it means you have come back so that is good. I suggest starting out with more like 15 minutes rather than an hour and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t make it the full time.
Why would you not want to meet with your friends, it sounds like they can give you good advice
