Why glassware crystal singing?
I know it is SiO2 and PbO 25-35% and that's not really a crystal, but if someone I could provide a mechanism for why Crystal sings and normal glass does not work. Also, why is it possible to set the tone by adding or removing water?
Common (regular) soda-lime glass has a higher melting temperature than lead glass. This makes it softer, with a higher internal friction. The density higher and reducing the internal friction is what allows the lead glass to "sing". A wet finger moved along the edge of the glass causes a "self-excited" vibration response.
