Please help – Sacromonte flamenco?
Hello there – My friend Brianne and I'm in Spain for 4 weeks. We have been seduced in Grenada because of its abundance of culture – I'm most excited about the caves, the Roma live appearance? I heard that the tourist adventurous, you can catch music and flamenco. Is this true? How and when do you find? How can we reach the caves? Thank you very much, any advice is appreciated! Lauren
Roma? They are called gypsies there. I do not think there is anything politically incorrect about it. Adventurous? no. Not at all. It Guided tours are offered from almost every home in town … they take you to the Albaicin, then in Sacromonte, where there performances in "caves" which are now difficult to distinguish the houses. You can tell both their inside, but outside, they look like ordinary houses. The dancing is remarkable! They line up chairs along the narrow "training", and keep your feet under chair, or you'll lose a toe or two! I was in something like thirty caves years ago … very primitive. They may still be that way up the hill … it looked like the Alhambra, but it has been established in recent years, people have learned that there was money to be made to these shows … Just ask the office where you stay. I think it was much nicer than the very civilized show I once saw in Seville. I also heard a couple of dancers talk about how the style of flamenco (with an O, and not one) is different in each city you can see, it would be interesting if you are interested to see a show in a number of different cities.
